Asphalt Plant Types and Applications

Asphalt plants are used to manufacture materials for use in many different applications. These materials must be kept pliable for proper application and therefore an asphalt plant must be located close to the worksite.

Types of Asphalt Plants

Two basic types of asphalt plants are used in the manufacture of asphalt:

1.Batch Plants – These plants manufacture batches of asphalt as required ready to go straight to work sites.

2.Drum Plants – These plants use a continuous process to manufacture asphalt which can be stored in heated storage silos for several days.

Both types of asphalt plants have common components which include:

-Cold feed-bins that accurately measure the different types of aggregates to be used in the mix to the drying drum.

-Storage tanks with stringent regulations for spill prevention.

-Dryer drum to heat and dry the aggregates. These are either parallel-flow drums that move the aggregates in the same direction as the hot air, or counter-flow drums that move aggregates in the opposite direction to the hot air.

-Storage silos that are heated.

The Difference between Bath Plants and Drum Plants

Batch Plant

In a batch plant, the aggregate is dried and heated before being transported to the batch tower where it is separated by size using screens and then stored in hot bins. Each aggregate amount is accurately proportioned by weighing in an aggregate weigh hopper before being dropped into a pug mill and mixed with an asphalt binder. The amount added is measured by a weigh bucket, or with a pump-and-meter system. The mixture is then either stored in a silo or dropped into a truck for transport to the work site.

Drum Plant

After drying and heating the aggregate and asphalt are mixed together in the drum plant and asphalt is produced continuously and can be stored in silos at the work site.

Applications

-Portable asphalt plants for use in ports.

-Asphalt drum mix plants for road construction and civil engineering construction can easily be taken to the worksite for the best results.

-Bitumen plants for city roads and many different applications including the construction of pavements. It provides incredible productivity at about 150 tons of bitumen per hour. They are also ideal for laying air strips and for other bitumen based applications.

-Asphalt drum plants for dams are particularly functional because of their portable characteristics.

-Asphalt drum plant equipment that continuously produces asphalt mixtures are ideal for the construction and maintenance of airports and train stations.

-Mobile asphalt plants are ideal for parking lot construction as they are easy to set up and operate.

-Asphalt mixing stations can produce efficient asphalt mixes for use in the construction of bridges and highways.

-Mobile asphalt plants are ideal for parking lot construction as they are easy to set up and operate.

Asphalt plants are fully equipped with processing capabilities to produce the appropriate asphalt mixes for use in many different construction projects. Both batch and drum types are very easy to operate and is made from high abrasion resistant and corrosion resistant materials. They offer a consistent asphalt mixture production with low energy consumption.
